Please note: Applying for a scholarship does not replace the standard admission process for the International Master in Life Sciences. All candidates must submit a full application to the Master’s program, using the dedicated platforms (Campus France, Mon Master or eCandidat, according to their situation).
Do you need an early admission decision for a scholarship?
Some scholarship programs offered by governments, embassies or other organizations require candidates to provide proof of admission before our standard admission calendar. If this applies to you, you may request an early evaluation of your application by our Selection Committee.
Please send one single PDF containing:
- your CV in English (1-2 pages)
- a motivation letter in English (1-2 pages), explaining your reasons for wanting to study in France, your interest in our specific program, and your future professional goals
- up to 3 recommendation Letters, preferentially from research internship supervisors
- a copy of your passport or national ID
- copies of your recent degrees/diplomas
- information about your English proficiency at B2 level or above, such as a language certificate, studies taught in English, a reference letter, or a brief description of your English experience and level in your motivation letter
- academic transcripts from the last 3 years
- information about the scholarship you are applying for, including its application deadline and a link to the official call when available
Please send your application as one PDF file by email and indicate “LiSci pre-admission request – YOUR NAME” in the subject line.
Important: due to the large number of requests we receive, incomplete applications will not be considered and cannot receive an individual reply.
Applications are reviewed periodically by our Selection Committee. Only candidates selected for pre-admission will be contacted, and issued a pre-admission letter. Please note: this pre-admission letter is a conditional academic approval issued by our Selection Committee to support your scholarship application. It does not constitute final admission to the Master’s program. Final admission is granted only after you have completed all required official application procedures and met the corresponding administrative requirements.
Specific scholarship programs
‣ France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship
The France Excellence Eiffel scholarship program is developed by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs to support foreign students studying in French institutions. It is a highly competitive national excellence scholarship. Applications cannot be submitted directly by students: candidates must first be selected and supported by a French higher education institution, which then submits the application on their behalf.
Because academic excellence is a major selection criterion, your academic results and ranking within your cohort are particularly important. If available, we strongly recommend providing an official document indicating your rank and cohort size, or any other information that helps us assess your academic standing.
To be considered for nomination by the International Master in Life Sciences, please first submit the complete pre-admission application described above by November 2, 2026.
In addition, please include the following information in your email:
- your current address
- information on any fellowship you received for the ongoing year
- an address where we can easily reach you
- for each degree/diploma:
- the institution (name, town, country)
- the field of study, name of the diploma, and level (Bachelor, Master, or other)
- the starting and ending dates of the program, along with the date of the diploma
- your grades, honours, cohort size, and academic ranking
- an explanation of whether this is an excellency program
Candidates selected by LiSci for an Eiffel nomination will be contacted to provide any additional information required to complete the official Eiffel application.
Please note: we cannot respond to inquiries about Eiffel applications to join other Master’s or PhD programs of Lyon 1 University.
‣ France Excellence Europa Scholarship
European students may apply directly to the France Excellence Europa scholarship program.
Because the scholarship deadline may fall before admission results are released through the standard Mon Master procedure, candidates may use the pre-admission procedure described above when required for their scholarship application.
‣ Arqus Talent Scholarship (no call open in 2025-2026)
University Claude Bernard Lyon 1 is part of the Arqus Alliance, which brings together 9 European universities (Granada, Graz, Leipzig, Lyon 1, Maynooth, Minho, Padua, Vilnius and Wroclaw). Candidates admitted to the international Master in Life Sciences program may apply to the Arqus Talent Scholarship program, depending on call openings.
Note: this scholarship is highly competitive and includes a compulsory mobility at a second Arqus partner university.
Other Scholarships
International students are encouraged to explore scholarships offered by the French embassy in their home country, their home government, or other funding organizations. The Campus France website is also a useful resource for identifying funding opportunities.
