Student life in Lyon

With 10.5% of students in its total population, and welcoming 25,000 international students, Lyon is a key hub for higher education in France. It has the advantages of a major student metropolis, featuring a dynamic cultural scene, all while maintaining a human-scale environment and ensuring a high quality of life. In a survey by l’Etudiant Magazine, 96% of students questioned in Lyon would recommend the city to another student.

How to prepare for your stay in Lyon?

The Lyon 1 University website describes life on campus (in French) and student services (in French).

The courses will primarily be held at La Doua campus, with occasional sessions on Rockefeller campus. Both are accessible by public transportation (TCL). We recommend that students arrange accommodation as soon as possible, as housing in Lyon can be in high demand.

International students will find a wealth of practical information on the Foreign UCBL Student webpage and in this practical guide, which—although intended for exchange students—also provides useful information for our students. The International Office of Lyon 1 University offers support to international students admitted to Lyon 1. We also recommend consulting Campus France and Lyoncampus for additional national and local ressources.
